GuanxiConnect is a cross-cultural training and coaching consultancy helping organisations to succeed in China through nurturing and developing culturally intelligent leadership skills.
GuanxiConnect was formed by two individuals with ambitions to build cultural bridges for the West to better understand China and to help the peoples of China to better understand the West. Our founders want others to learn, benefit and improve from our combined in-house cross-cultural experiences of studying, working and living in both China and the West.
We believe “The essence of knowledge is; having it and to use it.”
Our offer is straightforward. We will use the four principles of Cultural Intelligence (CQ) to cut through the mystery and teach the knowledge, skills and behaviours you and your team will need to succeed in China.
We will train, coach or mentor you or your colleagues to become culturally intelligent leaders, better able to do business in China. We will guide you on how to adapt your mindsets and behaviours when you engage with your Chinese colleagues, clients, suppliers, partners and other key stakeholders.
Our mission is to build bridges of cultural understanding and enable mutual learning between China and the West.
I am the co-founder of GuanxiConnect. My purpose today is to enable and help the West to better understand China and for China to better understand the West by building cultural bridges.
I am a culturally intelligent leader, China expert and a certificated Chinese Language teacher.
I specialise in Chinese Culture and language.
At GuanxiConnect, we want others to learn, benefit and improve from our combined personal cross-cultural experiences of studying, working and living in both China and the West. By doing this, the value created is to not only mitigate the risk of business failure through a lack of understanding of cultures but also to bridge cultural gaps between China and the West.
I was born in Shandong province - the hometown of Confucius in the east of China and raised in the Gobi Desert in Xinjiang autonomous region in the northwest of China. It’s fair to say that I was made in China but assembled in the West. I have spent two-thirds of my life growing up, studying and working in China and the other third living, studying and working in the UK.
I am a Risk Management Professional and combine GuanxiConnect with a highly successful career with a top FTSE 100 company.
I realise that the world is facing an unprecedented risk now; as long as the West does not properly understand China and China does not properly understand the West. Compared with many other business risks that I work to manage; the cultural risk is a much bigger one. In my professional view, if this can be successfully managed, this presents a huge opportunity for the World. That’s what has motivated me to co-found GuanxiConnect.
I have benefited greatly from both China and the Western World in my career journey and life so far. In China, we have an old saying: “Receiving drips of water when in need and I shall return the kindness with a spring”. Reciprocating an act of kindness is our nation’s fine tradition. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to give back for what has been given to me.
